Membahas mengenai selang tentu kita mengenal dua jenis bahan yang paling sering digunakan yakni bahan plastik (PVC) dan bahan karet atau rubber yang masing-masing dari bahan ini memiliki kekurangan dan kelebihannya tersendiri. Pada bagian awal ini akan dibahas mengenai selang PVC terlebih dahulu.<\/p>\n

Selang plastik PVC atau polyvinyl chloride umumnya digunakan dalam banyak keperluan seperti selang pneumatik, selang air, irigasi, konstruksi dan adapula yang digunakan dalam industri seperti cat, minyak dan bahan makanan atau minuman. Hal ini dikarenakan karakteristik yang dimiliki PVC mendukung pengerjaan tersebut yakni memiliki bobot yang tergolong ringan, selang yang lebih fleksibel dan elastis. Selain itu adapula selang yang mempunyai body transparan sehingga memudahkan untuk melihat dan memastikan material yang sedang dialirkan.<\/p>\n

Untuk menentukan selang PVC yang baik, ada beberapa kriteria yang harus kita ketahui seperti:<\/p>\n

Tahan terhadap suhu yang tinggi
\n<\/strong>Selang PVC dapat tahan terhadap suhu tinggi untuk pengaplikasian tertentu seperti minyak dan air panas, walaupun tidak bisa menahan suhu seekstrim pada pengaplikasian selang rubber.<\/p>\n

Fleksibel<\/strong>
\nSelang PVC memiliki kelenturan dan radius tekuk yang tinggi sehingga ketika digunakan tidak akan terbelit atau kusut dan mudah digunakan dalam area yang sempit.<\/p>\n

Kelembutan (Softness)<\/strong>
\nDinding bagian dalam dari selang PVC memiliki kelembutan sehingga material yang dialirkan tidak akan tersisa di bagian dalam dan sangat mudah untuk dibersihkan.<\/p>\n

Standarisasi<\/strong>
\nSelang berkualitas baik tentu saja memiliki standarisasi seperti ISO, Quality Management System, Environmental Management System, maupun standar-standar lain sesuai dengan kebutuhan seperti food grade untuk bahan makanan dan kimia tertentu.<\/p>\n

Usia Pakai<\/strong>
\nSelang PVC yang baik memiliki rentang usia pakai yang relatif lama, dikarenakan bahan material yang dipakai tahan lama.<\/p>\n

Itulah beberapa kriteria selang PVC yang baik, namun diluar itu ada juga kekurangan yang terdapat pada selang berbahan PVC ini, misalnya jika terkena panas atau cuaca yang ekstrem terlalu lama akan merusak bagian luar dari selang PVC, selain itu menggunakan selang yang tidak terstandarisasi, dapat membahayakan jika digunakan untuk mengalirkan bahan makanan maupun minuman.<\/p>\n
